Regenerate and Rejuvenate

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy is a regenerative treatment that uses the body’s growth factors to promote tissue growth, healing and repair.

BOOK A SLOT

Our Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Hair and Face treatments are performed by our doctor Dr Grace Moon in the heart of Cornwall.

We use the latest technology and take a holistic approach to your care to ensure the best results to help stimulate the activity of the hair follicles to promote new hair growth and a glowing, youthful face complexion.

How does PRP Therapy work?

PRP works by using platelets from your blood. These are harvested via a sample from your arm which is then placed in a centrifuge machine. At Cornwall Medical Group (CMG) we use the Arthrex centrifuge to ensure the highest quality and concentration of platelets.

These platelets are then injected into the body to stimulate a healing and growth response in the tissue.

PRP Treatment for Hair Loss

The NHS estimates that 8 million women and 85% of men in the UK will experience hair loss or alopecia in their lifetime. 50% of women will experience hair loss after menopause and 1 in every 500 people in the UK will suffer from alopecia.

Thinning hair, a poor-quality scalp or hair loss can be caused by several factors including illness, stress, diet, genetics or lifestyle. It can cause problems with low self-esteem and self-confidence.

PRP is a scientifically proven treatment that can reinvigorate dormant hair follicles, improve the quality of your hair and scalp and stimulate new hair growth. Platelets are injected into the scalp to reach the bottom of the hair follicle; stimulating dermal papilla cells which are critical in hair growth.

It can be used to treat:

  • Alopecia (hormone-related baldness)
  • Thinning hair
  • Poor quality scalp
  • Male-pattern baldness

PRP Treatment For Skin Rejuvenation

PRP can be injected into the dermal layer of the skin using microneedling devices. These contain dozens of needles in rows on a tiny patch.

Microneedling allows medicines (in this case, platelets) to bypass the outer layer of the skin and access the lower dermal layers, with minimal pain and maximum effectiveness.

The PRP delivers a rich source of platelets to the site providing healing factors. It boosts the body’s tissue regeneration and repair of damaged cells and tissue.

PRP has also been shown to promote a more youthful appearance by boosting the body’s production of elastin and collagen. This can leave the skin looking plumper and smoother and can significantly reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

PRP in the skin can be used to treat:

  • Rosacea
  • Acne and acne scarring
  • Scarring and scar formation
  • Pigmentation and skin blemishes including vitiligo and melasma
  • Fine lines and wrinkles (the ‘Vampire Facial’)

What you need to know about PRP Injections

Some localised bruising, swelling or redness are common immediately following the procedure, but you should be able to resume normal duties following treatment, avoiding excessive exposure to heat or sunlight, strenuous exercise or makeup.

PRP Treatment Aftercare

  • Do not use astringent skin care eg AHA, Retinols/Vitamin C
  • Avoid touching your face for at least 4 hours to minimise infection risk
  • Do not expose the area to intense heat or sunlight; your skin will be photo-sensitive
  • Pain relief such as paracetamol may be taken but avoid anti-inflammatory medication such as ibuprofen as this may interfere with the benefits of the treatment
  • Sleep elevated on two pillows to reduce swelling if necessary
  • An ice pack or similar may be applied to soothe redness
